• While traveling in Bali, the most important thing you must do is keep your passport with you at all times in case you are asked for identification. Treat your passport like money!
• If there is no need to carry your passport around. Lock it away in a safety deposit box in your hotel or some where you are comfortable that it is safe. Jot down your passport number and visa number on a piece of paper just in case. Its better to lose that than your passport.
• It's advisable to travel with a copy of passport. This should be kept separate from the original in case you lose your passport or for repatriation purposes. If you're traveling with your spouse, a copy of your marriage license is necessary.
• Don't give your passport to anyone. Some people claim to be 'officials' who need to verify your ID.
• If you do lose your passport, or it gets stolen, notify the local police and your consulate immediately. Make sure you have your copy and identification with you when you report the loss.
• Extending a visa is impossible, one must leave the country and come back in again. But this is a simple matter of going to Singapore or Australia and coming back the same day to renew your visa. It is quite common. The Indonesian government does not approve of people working on these visas, yet they continue to grant them to people who repeatedly come back to Indonesia after a short trip outside the country.
• Between August to October 2001, the Indonesian government announced a regulation wherein all expatriates resident in Indonesia must register with the Immigration Department for an Expatriate Registration number. Take your original passport, KITAS or KITAP, Buku Mutasi and two 3X4 cm photos to the Immigration office that issued your visa. No need to bring photocopies of anything - just the originals. Fill out their form in duplicate. The whole procedure takes about 15 minutes and is free.

This sponsorship is required before a semi-permanent visa and work permit can be processed. The Indonesian government has strict guidelines on what foreign expertise is required for the development of the country.

Visa & Passport in Bali

Diposting oleh putri | 6:55 AM

A PASSPORT and a visa are an essential document when traveling abroad. Many countries require you to purchase both papers before entering their country. It is your ticket in and out of every country in the world. Lose it and you lose the ability to come and go as you please. You probably won't even be allowed to get on the airplane without it.

You'll need a passport and visa to enter Bali to sign in at a hotel, or whenever police ask to see it, which they hardly ever do. Visitors from all other countries must obtain a visa from their local Indonesian consulate or embassy abroad. Make sure your passport is valid for six month upon entry into Indonesia.

A visa is an endorsement by a foreign country that allows you to visit their country, in the form of a stamp or a piece of paper placed in your passport. Visas usually allow a person to stay in that country for a specified purpose (i.e. work visa, study visa or tourist visa) and amount of time (from one week to one year).

There are no foreign embassies in Bali, just consulates, some of them with duties for several nations. Most countries maintain an embassy in Jakarta. Please contact the foreign embassies and consulates in Indonesia.

Bali Paperwork Tips

THIS review of the necessary documents should help to clarify some of the questions newcomers may have about the various documents required. Please follow the guideline:
• Choosing the Agents
• Getting Apply

Choosing The Agents • Look at the classified listings in the local newspaper for names of agents. Tell them you are shopping around to compare prices and that should bring their prices way down.
• Be extremely wary of the claims of an agent who doesn't come highly recommended from friends or colleagues.
• The danger is not only that the agent will charge you an excessive amount for his assistance, but that he will complete the documentation incorrectly. This could, needless to say, cause you numerous difficulties in the future.
• The best bet is to use an agent that has given good service at reasonable rates to your friends and colleagues. Remember, something that sounds too good to be true is usually just that.

Getting Apply • The best time to apply for a driver's license is as early in the morning as possible, Monday through Thursday. The office tends to be busier at the beginning of the month, as opposed to the middle or the end of the month. The worst times to go are on Fridays just before noon, when all the employees take a longer lunch break to go to Friday prayers at the mosque, as well as right before closing time on any day.
• Assuming that the applicant is in possession of all the necessary documents, the entire procedure should not take more than one or two hours, depending on the number of applicants that day.
• If your application is received before 12 am, it will be completed that day. Applications submitted after 12 am will be accepted and processing will begin, but the license will have to be picked up the following day. The office stops accepting new applications after 1 pm, but continues to process the applications submitted earlier that day until 4 pm.

Paperwork Regulation in Bali

THIS Indonesian government has strict guidelines on what foreign expertise is required for the development of the country. These guidelines determine who can be issued work permits. Company sponsorship is required as a first step in order for a foreigner who wants to work in Indonesia to be issued a work permit or visa. This sponsorship is required before a semi-permanent visa and work permit can be processed.

Living and working in Bali can sometimes be a trying experience. The advisory companies specialize in advice and regulatory counseling for hundreds of prospective residents and business people would provide consultation in the many areas, such as visas, work permits, documents, management formalities, firm licensing, advertising and other business needs.

The processes of obtaining proper documentation to live and work in Indonesia can seem like an endless maze of bureaucracy. Lack of posted regulations, irregular application of existing regulations, vested interests and other matters complicate what one would think would be a relatively smooth processing of paperwork for foreigners to live and work in Indonesia.
